Mediation space, Palais de Tokyo

The Palais de Tokyo places collaboration at the heart of the museum's visitor services, outreach, and communication initiatives. While visiting a museum is a cultural activity, it also encompasses broader dimensions: equal rights, citizenship (connecting individuals to the community), and social participation (giving everyone back their full autonomy of thought and action). And it is precisely this point that is at stake in the architectural project.

We approached the project from a cross-disciplinary perspective, encouraging a cross-referenced analysis of the issues and drawing on field research involving users, which enabled us to identify obstacles and opportunities for innovation.

The space we have designed is a guiding space, which opens up possibilities and multiplies scenarios. By creating a simple and refined design that avoids confusion, and by working with a volumetry that connects solids and voids, numerous spaces with potential emerge: the lighting can be adjusted depending on the activities, the materials stand out, and the routes to the workshops or exhibitions are long or short, direct or incorporating breaks and small airlocks.

In this new space, everyone explores their ability to create their own path.
