EIFFEL KIOSK | TIMELAPSE | 2020

Franklin Azzi agency has been chosen in early 2018 by a private client to completely rethink the architectural concept of a commercial kiosk enjoying an exceptional location: in front of the Eiffel Tower, with great visibility from La Seine and the Trocadero.

The existing kiosk is open seven days a week and offers fast food to visitors to this popular tourist attraction. The project is part of a public call by the Paris City Council for the renewal of concessions for stand-alone commercial structures located in public space. The future redesigned pavilion must fit into this sensitive environment of great heritage wealth. It is also a question of taking up the challenge of integration in a popular and attractive place already saturated with eclectic architectural objects (kiosks, carousel...) installed on the public domain.

Inspired by the light and dismountable pavilions designed by Jean Prouvé in the 50s, the kiosk is composed of modules assembled according to a 0.80m grid. Each module is composed of a spandrel in ribbed aluminum sheet, a wooden sash and mobile glass louvers in the upper part at the junction with the roof. The two central modules, with a width of 1.60m, integrate in addition two folding shelves. The pavilion is largely glazed on three sides.

It is a new efficient work tool for our client who benefits from a generous opening and transparency compared to its former structure. The rational interior layout integrates a wide circulation, a dedicated diving space out of sight, technical and storage rooms in the blind rear strip. The thin cantilevered roof creates a protective canopy for customers in rainy weather. It also acts as a sunshade for the kiosk which is very exposed in the morning. The roofing is made of zinc, in the manner of the Parisian roofs of Hausmann buildings. The structure, prefabricated in the workshop, was transported to the site by special convoy in order to limit the construction time on this sensitive tourist site.
