Grande Chaumière, Ateliers d'art

Located in the heart of the artistic Left Bank, the former Académie de la Grande Chaumière embodies the architecture of 19th-century artists' studios, with its generous volumes, glass roofs and layout that has remained unchanged for nearly a century. Franklin Azzi Architecture proposes a respectful renovation, designed as a precise, almost surgical intervention. Three scenarios are envisaged, each reconciling heritage preservation with adaptation to contemporary uses. The aim is to bring the building into the modern era without denying its history. Removals, additions and measured gestures reveal the existing qualities while giving the place a new lease of life. La Grande Chaumière becomes an open, lively place dedicated to art and culture. A Parisian space with a contemporary identity that is assertive but not ostentatious.
