Eames in string

For many years, the La Source-Garouste association has invited designers, architects, and artists to revisit iconic pieces in the history of design. The works are then auctioned, with the proceeds supporting the association's activities, which put art at the service of social causes and childhood.

In 2015, the famous Wire Chair, designed by Charles and Ray Eames in 1951, was handed over to the invitees. Franklin Azzi delivered an entirely woven version. Several hundred meters of flag rope were interwoven through the original metal mesh. The chair is thus adorned with a second skin of cotton whose metamorphosis is reminiscent of Le Déjeuner en Fourrure by Swiss surrealist artist Meret Oppenheim, who covered a cold coffee cup and saucer with fur.
