John Galliano

At the corner of Rue des Archives and Rue Sainte-Croix de la Bretonnerie, The Agency, in collaboration with Atelier Franck Durand, has designed John Galliano's first Parisian boutique in a setting that is both discreet and unique. The project fits into the fabric of the Marais district while asserting its own identity. The façade, clad in black lacquered wood and inspired by Victorian codes, dialogues with the surrounding Haussmannian architecture while clearly distinguishing itself from it. Elegant and assertive, it marks the address without revealing it entirely. Inside, the architect has designed a space with multiple influences, conceived as an apartment. The references are varied: vintage carpets and armchairs, poured concrete walls, moulded staff cornices, and mobile linen partitions inspired by Gio Ponti's accordion walls. The materials are rich and carefully chosen: enamelled lava stone, brass, stained oak, coloured leathers, and deep carpets. Every detail reveals the work of skilled craftsmen and affirms a sober elegance. The spatial organisation optimises the initially constrained space. Natural lighting is reworked through openings and the addition of reinforced glass. Three exposed cast iron posts punctuate the space. Circulation is clear, areas are well defined, and uses are modular thanks to large sliding partitions. This project marks an evolution in Franklin Azzi's work, who explores a more expressive palette without compromising on rigour. The result is a sophisticated yet accessible boutique, reflecting the revival of the Galliano brand.
