Cité internationale de la langue française
As part of the creation of the Cité Internationale de la Langue Française (International City of the French Language), Franklin Azzi thought the interior layout of the Château de Villers-Cotterêts, the royal residence where the Ordinance of 1539 was signed. Located in the heart of an area particularly affected by illiteracy, the city stands as a symbolic place dedicated to the French language. TThe architectural proposal, guided by a holistic approach to the site, was based on three main ideas: reintegrating the château into its urban environment, giving new meaning to historical routes, and creating a contemporary third place around the jeu de paume court. Inside, a minimalist approach highlights the existing materials and offers a fluid and unified interpretation of the programme, providing a cultural experience that is accessible to all.
