Dock en Seine

A former port site undergoing redevelopment, the Docks de Saint-Ouen are now home to an ambitious eco-neighbourhood. In this context, the Dock en Seine project, led by the Franklin Azzi agency, is fully in line with a sustainable and innovative architectural approach. The compact and rational building has six floors, designed from the outset to meet the highest environmental standards. Working closely with its parametric research laboratory, the agency undertook in-depth work on the form, structure and envelope: orientation, natural light, solar protection, wind effects, acoustics and thermal efficiency were modelled from the very first sketches. The openings in the façade, whose rhythm appears organic, are the result of this careful optimisation rather than an arbitrary gesture. They meet specific performance and comfort criteria. Enveloping the main volume, a sculptural honeycomb mesh acts as a passive skin: it protects, filters and enables the desired performance to be achieved without technological excess. Each cell, independent but coordinated, contributes to the overall efficiency of the building while asserting its unique identity.
